We thought today’s expansion of Maple would be the most exciting delivery news in David Chang’s world (anyone who orders lunch or dinner gets one of Christina Tosi’s “Sugar Shack” cookies, gratis), but an email from Caviar managed to steal its thunder. The haute delivery service is now dispatching Fuku’s spicy fried chicken sandwich and other items from Chang’s budding fast casual chain. But much as there was a line down the block when Fuku first opened in the East Village in June, it proved hard to get our hands on some Fuku fingers this morning.

A Look at WildFeast at Riis, Serving Beachside Fish Tacos Through the Winter
Last month when we brought word that the folks at Riis Park Beach Bazaar had decided to keep slinging drinks through the winter, and that one of its vendors, WildFeast, would be continuing on as a proper restaurant, it seemed too good to be true: year-round food and drink smack dab in the middle of Jacob Riis Park? During the off-season the place is pretty much the dictionary definition of “desolate,” with howling winds that will instantly peel off whatever is left of that summer tan.
David Chang’s Delivery Service, Maple, Expands Downtown
Downtown’s stay-at-home gourmands already have a bevy of options for food delivery: back in June, we test-ran the latest of them: Munchery, Caviar Fastbite, and Uber Eats. Now Seamless addicts have yet another alternative: David Chang’s Maple service just announced that tomorrow it’ll expand to Greenwich Village, West Village, Soho, Tribeca, Nolita and Little Italy.
Check Out Smorgasburg and Brooklyn Flea’s Winter Market in Sunset Park
After turns in downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg, and Crown Heights, Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg’s winter market reopened in Sunset Park this past weekend, in the sunny confines of Industry City. The new, 50,000 square-foot location is sprawling, with one wing dedicated to dozens of Smorgasburg vendors and the other housing 100+ Brooklyn Flea vendors hawking vintage and handmade goods — everything from Brooklyn Brewery beer soap to artisanal horseradish.
Or You Could Guzzle a Free Coffee…
True story: today someone tried to charge me $4.50 for a cup of drip coffee. It was a Times Square tourist trap that I ducked into during a moment of groggy desperation, but still. In this city of nitro cold brews and deconstructed lattes, is there any hope for someone who just wants to enjoy a cheap cuppa, “construction-worker-style”? Enter the Cafe Bustelo pop-up.
Some Vintage Car Porn From the Set of David Simon’s The Deuce
We don’t always go to midtown, but when we do, we come back with photos from the set of David Simon’s new HBO pilot about the ’70s porn industry. The Deuce has lined West 30th Street, between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, with vintage cars, and has transformed 242 West 30th into an old-school Korean restaurant. We didn’t spot the pilot’s stars, James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, but we did get an eyeful of vintage phone booths and mailboxes. We haven’t seen those since… well, Scorsese’s HBO show. All very authentic except for those ’70s-era trash piles, which upon closer inspection contained copies of this week’s newspapers. Don’t worry, Dave, we won’t tell.

This Bill Murray Portrait Is Just So Grate

(Photo: Readingwearingrocking on Instagram.)
He may not be galavanting around Williamsburg anymore, but we’ve seen a lot of Bill Murray lately — in the trailers for his Netflix Christmas special and for Barry Levinson’s Rock the Kasbah. Because you can never have enough Bill, Lower East Side designer and illustrator Kim Sillen just painted this portrait on the security grate of Black Cat LES, at 172 Rivington Street.
The tribute, part of the ever expanding 100 Gates project, is a stone’s throw from East Broadway, a street that Murray insisted never existed before he was brought there.
Ralph Lauren Opens in Williamsburg Friday, Like It Or Not
Just in time for Halloween, it’s Williamsburg’s worst nightmare. We’re told Ralph Lauren’s Double RL & Co will open Friday morning at 85 North 3rd Street, right next to the new Steven Alan Optical store and just around the corner from the new J.Crew store, and the new Urban Outfitters, and the new Madewell, and the new (and now boozed-up!) Starbucks. Soon the neighborhood will be called Williamsburg Mills.
WiFi HiFis in SoHo! Sonos Store Announces Itself With This Artsy Homage
What’s going on at 101 Greene Street? You may recognize the above scene as the work of Mark Alan Stamaty, whose frenetic renderings of NYC have graced the pages of the Village Voice (olds may remember his late-’70s Village-set comic, “McDoodle Street”), the cover of the first They Might Be Giants album, and more recently the cover of Will Hermes’s excellent account of the ’70s music scene, Love Goes to Buildings on Fire.Â
