Calling all urban campers!

If you’re one of the 23 percent of New Yorkers who own a car and happen to need a free parking spot in the East Village, you’re in luck. We’ve found the rarest of commodities: a stretch of curb that doesn’t have any parking regulations. Seriously. None.

Some cars have already taken advantage of the parking free-for-all, on the west side of Cooper Square, between 4th and 6th Streets. This old AMC Marlin has been parked here for at least a couple of weeks. Not only has it garnered tons of adoring snaps, but it doesn’t have any tickets on its window.

And then there’s the ride at the top of the page, sporting one of Kenny Scharf’s Karbombz.

If you’re thinking this is a trap, check out these parking apps that let drivers check regulations before they’re hit with a fine. Neither Smooth Parking and NYC Best Parking show “prohibited” or “metered” labels between 5th and 6th Streets, though Smooth Parking does say there is no parking between 4th and 5th Streets.

The actual parking authority, the Department of Transportation’s site also shows there are no regulations for this area on Cooper Square.

This still sounded too good to be true– after all, government sites are usually slow to be updated– so we reached out to DOT. But they directed us right back to their site.

Since parking regulations and parking signs are notoriously confusing, you should probably always park with caution, but this looks like a great place to start.

Correction: An earlier version of this post misidentified the make of one of the cars parked on Cooper Square.
