“This is fun,” said John Eatherly midway through the first gig of the East Village’s newest indie darlings, Public Access TV, at Niagara yesterday evening. Of course it was fun – the tiny venue was slammed with it-girls (Tennessee Thomas and Alexa Chung, for example), journalists and British music execs eager to see the fellas NME called “New York’s Hottest New Band.” Even Lindsay Lohan was there.

In addition to revealing that the band is actually worth the hype (insert obvious The Strokes comparison here) the gig also revealed the band’s members – something they had been purposefully keeping hush-hush. Frontman John Eatherly previously played drums in Be Your Own Pet and, most recently, The Virgins. Guitarist Xan Aird was also in The Virgins (though there’s evidently no bad blood or drama there – Donald Cumming came out to support his former bandmates).

Eatherly and Aird are joined by Peter Baumann, who also plays with charming rock outfit Grand Rapids. And though the crowd was largely too jaded or too cool or too drunk to do much dancing, we’d still venture to say the new princes of East Village indie rock have been crowned.

Check out their first single below.
