The plastered on a lobby door of the historic Hotel Chelsea could be lifted any day now, allowing for a new round of renovations in rooms once occupied by the likes of William Burroughs, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Sid Vicious and any number of wannabes drawn for decades to the old brick building with wrought iron balconies on West 23rd Street.

As expected, Larry Clark celebrated his 71st birthday at Baby’s All Right on Friday. Considering the free beer and sliders, it was a pretty chill affair. Clark spent most of his time on stage with reVolt, cracking jokes. He did some off-stage mingling as well, but it wasn’t till the end of the night, when he stepped out for a smoke, that the filmmaker got swarmed by admirers wanting selfies with him. We asked some of Clark’s well-wishers how old they were when they first saw Kids, and which of today’s NYC kids are worthy of the legendary photographer’s lens.

“What happens when it all goes black?” Big Ups singer Joe Galarraga begs to know on the band’s breakthrough single, an anxiety-fueled romp through shrieking guitars and fierce, restless rhythms. But while “Goes Black” and other tracks off of the just released debut album, Eighteen Hours of Static, foster a dark, dangerous vibe throughout, Galarraga himself doesn’t take even his most serious subject matter all that seriously.

Here’s What Justin Strauss Dropped at Panther Room Last Night

Welcome to Last Night’s Playlist, in which our favorite DJs share the tunes they played last night.

For the very first instalment of Last Night’s Playlist, we’re pleased to feature a living nightlife legend, Justin Strauss. Strauss has been keeping folks dancing for decades – since well before the “death of New York nightlife” (i.e. Michael Alig’s incarceration). He’s played at infamous institutions like Area, Danceteria, Limelight and Tunnel. He’s remixed Tina Turner. He’s worked with Depeche Mode. And even after over three decades of spinning, remixing and producing, Strauss is still at the forefront of what’s fresh – under the moniker a/jus/ted – a collaborative project with Teddy Stuart – he’s remixed everyone from Holy Ghost! to Blood Orange.

Here are just a few tunes Strauss played yesterday evening at Output‘s Panther Room during his back to back set with Eric Duncan aka Dr Dunks. If you like what you hear, you can catch Strauss tomorrow night at the Bossa Nova Civic Club.

Few things are less New York than watching Seattle and Denver play football in New Jersey over a 30-pack of Milwaukee’s Best. So start Super Bowl weekend with something singular to the city — a vintage flea market in Williamsburg.

More than 20 visiting vendors will display clothes, gems and bric-a-brac at Destination: Vintage, which takes over the Artists & Fleas warehouse space on N. 7th Street next Saturday and Sunday. The selection of available items will span seven decades, from the 1920s to the 1990.

Anyone who plays the ukulele and admits to having worn neon bathing suits in high school is fine by us, which is why we’re like, totally 100% behind Kay Kasparhauser, frontwoman of local band The Prettiots. Though Kasparhauser says she “wouldn’t be disappointed or insulted if someone underestimated us and thought we were just some kids making pop,” there’s a sense of charm and self-awareness – particularly to their lyrics – that makes The Prettiots much more than that.
