(Flyer via Aviv)

(Flyer via Aviv)

Dream Crusher, NAH, Girlpusher, Tony Seltzer, Hounds
Wednesday September 21, 8 pm at Aviv: $10

It’s just about time to start gathering your crew for the last stretch at Aviv as we know it. The venue is closing at the end of October and fingers crossed they find a new space, but until then me and you and everyone else who does the Brooklyn DIY thing should get it in while we still can.

Mad For Mac DeMarco? He’s Apparating at Baby’s All Right Tonight

mac demarco harry potterTonight’s act at Baby’s All Right is mysteriously listed as “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” but don’t expect PotterCon redux. That image of Alfred E. Neuman as the Boy the Who Lived is clearly a reference to a certain gap-toothed master of irony. And the opening band, “Another Juan,” would seem to be a play on his newly released mini-LP, Another One. You guessed it: Mac DeMarco is prone to having secret shows, and the folks at Baby’s All Right confirm that this is one of them. If you miss tonight’s all-ages affair (tickets, just $5, will be available at the doors, which open at 8:30 p.m.), feel free to say, “What, me worry?” Mac will be playing some not-so-secret shows at Bowery Ballroom on Aug. 17, Webster Hall on Aug. 18, Music Hall of Williamsburg on Aug. 19 and Warsaw on Aug. 20.

Check out our review of the new album here.

Do Hold Your Breath For Mac DeMarco’s New ‘Mini-LP,’ Another One

If you had a chance to swing by Our Wicked Lady in the hours before their grand opening then maybe you found the loopy singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco throwin down dogs whilst a couple of his new tracks bumped on the boom box. Or perhaps you were stuck behind double-paned office windows, miles from anything resembling summer or fun, let alone new music. Stir not in jealousy, though, for the release of 25-year-old Rockaway resident Mac Demarco’s new “mini-LP” is just on the horizon.

(At Least) 5 Rad Shows Happening This Week

Wand and Honey at Death By Audio (and possibly, maybe Ty Segall)
Wand, the garage-psych outfit from California that’s been opening for Ty Segall just before he absconds the Land of The Free for the Eurozone, will play a show of their own on Tuesday night at DBA. Oh yeah, and rumor has it Ty Segall might actually show his face as well. Ty’s appearance isn’t completely out of the question — after all, his video for “Goodbye Bread” was shot inside the DIY venue, and DBA is closing soon, meaning this could be his last chance to play a venue he’s clearly pretty fond of. Definitely joining Wand are the local dudes from Honey.

Sex and the City creator Darren Star’s new project, Younger, a half-hour comedy pilot for TV Land, shot interiors today at Matchless in Greenpoint. Two-time Tony-winner Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes) plays 40-ish Liza, who sees her kids off to school in the morning, then heads to the office, where her colleagues think that she’s — wait for it — younger than she actually is.

Depending on whose tweets you prefer, Black Flag spent Friday and Saturday either “destroying” or “kicking the crap out of” Warsaw, only to go on to do a Sunday show at a venue so secret that if anyone gave up the name (Grand Victory) they probably would’ve had to disappear to Hong Kong. (Seriously, the email confirmation was all: “Any social media or other discovered leaks of location may result in denied entry.”)
