Sunshine Cinema’s midnight screenings of The Room (“the Citizen Kane of bad movies”) are always a blast: b-movie lovers line up to revel in the melodrama’s stilted acting, tin-eared dialogue, and the kind of wtf props that spur everyone to throw plastic spoons at the screen. But Saturday night’s engagement was extra special – not only was there the usual frenzied Q&A with writer, director, actor Tommy Wiseau, but there were several sold-out screenings of the international man of mystery’s new sitcom, The Neighbors. Kurt Russell Rocks An Eyepatch, Tommy Wiseau IRL, Get Freaky With Danish Vampyrs

It’s that time of the week again, y’all. Here’s a list of a moving pictures we’re excited to see.

Escape From New York
This is early ’80s sci-fi action at its finest. The probably named Snake Plissken (played by a mostly shirtless Kurt Russell) is not only working to bring back eyepatches, but he’s also on a reconnaissance mission to save the President after Air Force One crashes in the middle of Manhattan. Friday September 26th and Saturday September 27th at 12:20 am, IFC Center; tickets, $14

What appears to be an infinite black vortex in the miniscule space nestled between the Asian restaurants on East 10th Street are actually the detailed paintings of Korean artist Minjung Kim. Entitled “The Room” (not to be confused with the Tommy Wiseau flick that’s always playing at Sunshine) the exhibit is the artist’s first solo show in New York in over a decade, and it could not have found a more appropriate home than Oko, the nondescript East Village gallery known for its immersive art experiences.
