The Brooding Long Goodbye Brings the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival to a Close

The trailer for Long Goodbye opens with a straight shot of a woman with shoulder-length hair and a jean jacket walking briskly away from the camera through the Morgan Ave subway station. We can’t see her face. One of the next scenes lingers on two friends chatting on a couch, with one of the guys uttering some language that feels rather stalker-y: “I drive around and clear my head and find myself parked outside of her place. I’m not going to do anything…I don’t know. Maybe she wants me to?”

Week In Film: Strange Noir Saga, Underage Nymphos, and Seeing John Malkovitch

The sun will come out tomorrow y’all, but that doesn’t mean our black-as-black hearts have grown any less cynical. We’ll never be wary of shutting ourselves inside and “catching” what I’ve heard people call “flicks,” as opposed to having face-to-face human interactions. Those are never as good as movies anyway, and the only thing you can “catch” from people are diseases. Am I right or am I right? That’s why we’re gracing you yet again with at least a handful of excuses to avoid that horrible social anxiety otherwise known as talking to people, particularly like a date or something. Imagine the horror! Hell is other people and movies are really the only thing that, once in a while, might trick us into thinking that’s a bunch of bull.

New Film Peeks Behind The Curtains Of A Bizarre Bushwick Scene

A new feature film based loosely on Bizarre, the splendidly raunchy Bushwick performance space and bar, doesn’t exaggerate for the sake of shock value. If anything, it’s a little watered down from reality, according to its owner.

“[The filmmaker] couldn’t put the craziest stuff in the film because I think he didn’t want to maybe shock too much,” owner Jean-Stephane Sauvaire explained. “But I like that many of the regular performers are in the film– it really gives a picture of the different sensibilities and different performers, and at the same time you feel they are all the same spirit.”

Look Back and Laugh: Filmmaker Recalls the ‘Salad Days’ of DC Hardcore

Salad Days premieres tomorrow at DOC NYC , and as we mentioned in this week’s Reel Psyched, it’s definitely on our short list of must see-films. Given our devotion to all things East Village and Lower East Side, we thought it might be cool to talk to filmmaker Scott Crawford about the D.C. hardcore scene of the ’80s and see how it compared to the punk scene in New York City.
