When Governor Cuomo’s office announced a series of statewide “marijuana listening sessions” to get community feedback when drafting legislation for legal adult use, many rushed to make jokes; the name conjured images of stoned people jamming to records. But recreational cannabis use was one of the last things on the minds of those at last night’s Manhattan session. We haven’t heard much about TWA Flight Center since we took our last look inside of it during Open House NY last year, but progress is finally being made on the hotel that will restore Eero Saarinen’s majestic structure to its Jet Age glory and open it to the public after more than 15 years of disuse. Today Governor Andrew Cuomo and other elected officials gathered to break ground on the TWA Hotel, set to open at the end of 2018.
The mayor, governor, and thousands of members of New York’s LGBT community and their supporters gathered around Stonewall Inn yesterday evening for a vigil to mourn the 49 killed and dozens more injured during Sunday’s attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
