Sneak Peek at the Coney Art Walls, Opening Friday With Daze, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and More

The opening date of Coney Art Walls has been bumped up from Saturday to Friday this weekend, and we’ve learned there are some special activities planned for Memorial Monday. Natalie Lamming of D’Savannah Bar & Lounge in Flatbush says “shhh…”, but we’re going to tell you anyway that “Brooklyn’s Best Kept Secret” is bound for the one and only Coney. The live music event will include Carnival-esque performances by Lyrikal, Patrice Roberts, Kerwin Dubois, Voice and Farmer Nappy. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the soca starts at 6 p.m. $65 tickets are still available online for those who like to chip and whine.

Greenpoint’s Manhattan Avenue: ‘Right Now It’s Just on the Edge’

It’s lunchtime at Polski Meat Market on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint, and business is dead. Again. An older woman makes pierogis in the back, while her son Adam Parys mans the meat case, which contains nine kinds of kielbasa, and another employee straightens the shelves. In half an hour, only one customer steps inside.

Pure Love’s Jim Carroll Has Nothing But Love For These 5 Greenpoint Spots

Before Pure Love goes on tour to support their debut album (Anthems was released by Mercury Records earlier this year) they’ll play their very first U.S. show tonight at Saint Vitus.

You might recognize frontman Frank Carter as the Londoner with the neck tats, who often got bloodied up during his performances with Gallows. He probably won’t leave the stage needing stitches tonight: Pure Love’s rock sound is more refined — but no less energetic, thanks in part to guitarist Jim Carroll, who also boasts a punk pedigree via his stints in Hope Conspiracy and Suicide File.
