Are New Yorkers Really Paying $13 to Get a Big Mac Delivered?

IMG_0019A couple of things have happened since we last updated you on the world of lightening-fast food delivery: for one thing, you can now get Fuku’s chicken sandwich in under 15 minutes via Caviar Fastbite. But the thing I can’t get out of my head: McDonald’s is now using the service, and — after tax, delivery fee, and tip — a simple Big Mac and fries will cost you over $13.50.

This raises the question: who the hell is paying $13 for a Big Mac and fries? And if people are actually doing this (which they seem to be, given that the item was temporarily unavailable the other day), is this the ultimate symbol of just how easy it is to get New Yorkers to throw their money into a festering feces pit?

The Choco Taco Cappuccino. It Exists.

IMG_4716While surveying the lineup for Hester Street Fair’s Ice Cream Social, we noticed that one of the vendors, Baldies, is offering a “Chaco” that’s described as “an artisanal take on the beloved ‘Choco Taco’ dessert.” Basically it’s a crepe shell filled with ice cream, with toppings like melted chocolate, almonds, and sea salt.

The Mac and Cheese Bagel Is a Thing That Exists

Sometimes you wake up in desperate need of coffee, turn to Seamless to see if Tompkins Square Bagels will deliver a cappuccino, and then you discover: the mac and cheese bagel. It’s a special on the menu today, it looks like the above, it’s $5.95, and it’s pretty much the most carbs you can deliver to your stomach in two minutes time.
