If you were bummed when the Parks Department declared no surfing during the blizzard, you’re probably familiar with Lost Weekend, the Lower East Side’s haven for surfheads and poseurs alike. Stocked with boards, fins, and various riptide-esque films, books and magazines, it provides a year-round taste of summer (not to mention, coffee). Now, after four and a half years on Orchard Street, the shop’s days are numbered.
The Orchard Street Runners lamented the news on Instagram. For those willing to brave the slush, tonight will be the running group’s last dash from the shop. When we went by, Michael Little, the owner, confirmed Lost Weekend will soon close and said he will put out a press release about his future projects later this week.
It’s with mixed emotions that I share this news: Tuesday night’s run will be our last from @LostWeekendNYC The doors will be closing the end of this month. @FourthPlacePrize is moving on to bigger and better, congrats Mike. Thanks for hosting us over the last 5 years and for always helping the cause, Lost Weekend will be missed.
Seems like ocean-lovers stuck in the city will have to trek over to Saturday’s in Soho for their coffee-and-waves vibe.
