A woman assaulted a 33-year-old male employee of the Whiskey Ward last Sunday morning, the police say. The fight at the rather innocuous Lower East Side bro bar came after the two got into a verbal dispute. The man asked the woman and her male companions to leave the bar (last call, c’mon), a request that she met by allegedly bashing the dude over the head with a glass bottle. We’re guessing he didn’t say please.

But seriously, the guy sustained lacerations that were enough to send him to the hospital and the perp is still on the loose. We spoke with J.D., a bartender at the Whiskey Ward on shift this afternoon. He said the fight occurred when “four kids” tried to enter the bar after last call. The doorman, who J.D. described as “the nicest, mellowist guy ever” and someone who’s never had issues with guests, told the crew they weren’t allowed inside. “The girl pulled a bottle out of her purse and smashed him in the head,” J.D. said. “It’s just disgusting, I mean people talk about this neighborhood being gentrified but then this is what happens.” The Whiskey Ward bartender told us the doorman had to get ten stitches.

The NYPD is asking for help with this one. The photo is pretty blurry, but if you recognize the female suspect pictured with one of her male companions or if you have any information about the attack, police are asking that you contact them through the Crime Stoppers website. In keeping with this techy tech world we live in, anyone with information text their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
